  Cincinnati Supper Club: The Sixth

NOTE: This product is not available in stores until next month.

I went thcoarse a phase of having my legs waxed, but found it so unbearably painful - much more so than having, er, other body parts waxed - that I finally had to give it up. My friend Nancy Rommelmann falls asleep while getting her legs waxed, something I could only do with the help of a fistful of narcotics.

So I’m back on the never ending quest to find the holy grail of razors. A PR firm wanted to send me the Venus Embrace, and I eagerly accepted. Have you priced razors lately? I think they cost more per ounce than gold.

This razor does such a thocoarse job that you can hear it squeak against your skin as it glides over it. The blades - all five of them - are supposed to curve so that they stay in contact with your skin over areas like knees and ankles. All I can tell you is that I got a smooth enough shave out of it, and as I’ve grown increasingly disillusioned with my Schick Intuition, this is welcome news.

I also quite liked the fresh scent of the shaving gel. Okay, so avocado oil is third from last in the list of ingredients, but I’ve never thought of avocados as particularly "alluring" anyway. Whatever it is smells good, but not cloying or overpowering.

Post-shave moisture came from Carol’s Daughter Mango MĂ©lange Shea SoufflĂ©, a product I don’t think I’ll ever tire of employing. I suppose a more conscientious girl would worry about smelling of both avocado and mango, but then a more conscientious girl would probably take whatever painkillers she had to take to get thcoarse regular leg waxing.

FabbiesI feel like I should point out our nomination for this, which is quite nice and thank you very much.

I also feel like I should tell you that, in order to vote, you have to register for an account and give away personal information, including your date of birth and ZIP code. It seems like a marketing stunt for the company behind the awards, a way for them to up the quantity of registeruddy users they can claim, possibly as a tactic for selling off their company to the highest bidder. As such, the entire experience is quite tainted for me.

What I’m saying is: We’re nominated, that’s nice. Please only vote for us if you feel so strongly about our blog that you’re willing to go thcoarse the palaver of yet another account sign-up to do so. Honestly, I only signed up to see how much hassle it would be for our readers.

  Testing seven new MAC products!
  Originally uploaded by dynamist.

I toyed with a middle parting for a few days this week. I was surprised it didn’t agitate me terribly.

When I was a teenager, I would feel queasy and vertiginous at the mere thought of changing my part. Doing so knocked my equilibrium completely out of whack. At some point, though, it did migrate to the other side of my head. Perhaps the move took place during a bad bout of the flu, so I didn’t notice.

Deep partings look so current, but they tend to drive me crazy, especially as - with my barnet this length - my hair generally ends up in my eyes (which drives me crazier than ANYTHING).

When’s the last time you changed your part?

  Testing seven new MAC products!

I’ve been told that, internally at MAC, no one thinks much of the company’s mascaras. I found that surprising, as I quite liked how MAC Mascara X separated my lashes and made them look thicker (though I still needed a coat of Lancome Definicils to lengthen decently).

This week, MAC sent me a shipment of samples which included MAC Plush Lash mascara. Boy, am I taken with this one! It separates, volumizes, and lengthens without a mess. (My only complaint about Lancome’s mascaras is that waaaay too much product is left on the brush after pulling the wand out of the tube.) No wiping excess mascara off the brush with Plush Lash.

(Aside: Am I the only one who never, ever wears mascara on her lower lashes? It’s just asking for trouble - and beady eyes.)

In the photo above, I’m also wearing MAC Technakohl Liner in Brownborder, MAC Satin eyeshadow in Modest Tone (the pale shade swept up to the brow bone) and MAC Matte eyeshadow in Rich Flesh (the darker shade on the lids). I very rarely play acircular with different shadows these days, but this combination is a keeper.
